Gardening isn’t a project you finish. It’s a practice you return to. Use this page as
a home for your daily and seasonal rhythms as Whole Garden Life grows.
The 5-Minute Daily Garden Practice
Step outside and take one slow breath before you do anything.
Walk your garden or container space once, noticing what has changed.
Touch at least one plant—check moisture, new leaves, or pests.
Do one tiny action: pull three weeds, harvest a handful, or water a dry pot.
Note one observation in a notebook or your phone.
Monthly Garden Rhythm Calendar
## February (North America) — Mid-Spring Rhythm
These are broad, flexible rhythms for February across much of North America. Use them as *prompts* — your garden is the final authority.
Week 1
Soil & Bed Readiness
Top-dress beds or pots with compost (a thin, even layer).
Check drainage and compaction; loosen only where needed.
Walk the space and mark where sun is landing right now.
Daily: 5 minutes of observation before action.
Week 2
Early Planting & Thinning
Direct sow hardy greens where conditions allow (lettuce, spinach, arugula).
Start or refresh a small herb pot near the kitchen.
Thin crowded seedlings so what remains can thrive.
Daily: remove one small friction (a weed, a dead leaf, a cluttered pot).
Week 3
Support Growth
Begin light feeding only if plants are actively growing.
Set simple structure: stakes, ties, or a small trellis.
Mulch pathways and exposed soil to reduce swings in moisture/temperature.
Daily: touch the soil — water only when it truly needs it.
Week 4
Observe & Adjust
Look for pests early (undersides of leaves) and respond gently.
Make one watering adjustment based on weather + soil feel.
Plan one “next sowing” (succession) for early spring.
Daily: harvest something small and use it the same day.
